Who We Are » Mohammad Kamal, M.D.

Dr. Mohammad Kamal was born in Washington DC and raised in Cairo, Egypt where he received his education. He graduated in Cairo University School of Medicine. He finished his Pathology training at Harbor UCLA Medical Center in Torrance California and completed subspecialty training in the Klaus Lewin Gastrointestinal and Liver Pathology fellowship program at UCLA. He has research interests in the areas of Gastrointestinal and Liver pathology and in medical device technology. His early research experience started with SmithKline Beecham Clinical Laboratories where he was a member of a team developing state of the art Point-of-Care Testing system. In March 2000, he was involved in designing a pilot study for the first Long-term glucose sensor to be implanted in a human. In the 2003 annual meeting of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD), his poster on living donor liver transplant was awarded the Presidential Poster of Distinction Award. His current research activity is in Barrett's esophagus and associated dysplastic and neoplastic changes. Dr. Kamal has lectured on various topics in gastrointestinal and liver pathology, including inflammatory bowel disease, fatty liver disease and improving the quality of GI biopsies. He is a member of American Society of Clinical Pathologists, the College of American Pathologists, the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathologists and the Los Angeles Society of Pathologists.
